IS YOUR HEARING AS ACCUTE AS YOU THINK?
Lets start with you sense of hearing. We all take for granted the everyday sounds that constantly happen around us and we tend to just hear most of it as just background noise. But what are you really hearing? The answer is many sounds all at the same time, but can you distinguish between them? Can you hear a particular sound louder and clearer than the others? You may find this a bit hard to start with but with a little patience and dedication it will become easier.
It is probably going to be a lot easier and a lot less stressful if you start your "auditory stretching" in a quiet place. Perhaps in a country park or on a country walk, somewhere far away from the hustle and bustle of town and city life, and away from the drone of constant traffic.
Sit or stand quietly and listen. Close your eyes if you wish. What do you hear? Probably you hear all the immediate sounds such as the wind in the trees, rustling leaves, creaking branches, the wind passing your ears and perhaps your breathing. All things you would expect whilst standing quietly in the country. But are you really hearing everything? I very much doubt it. Did you hear that distant car traveling along that distant lane? Did you hear that tiny bird singing in the distance? Did you hear that rustling sound off to your right of a squirrel dashing across the ground towards a tree?
Although you may not be aware of it there is an infinite cacophony of different noises and sound constantly being picked up by your ears but we have the inbuilt habit of filtering most of them out. Hence we don`t notice them. Now is the time to turn off that filter and hear what is really there.
Try to ignore the immediate noise in your vicinity and push your hearing forward, stretch it, try to pick up even the most distant sounds. It may make things easier if you look in the direction you are trying to hear from. Stretch your hearing as far as you can. Pick up those distant sounds. Name them. Count them. Hear that dog barking way ahead of you. Hear that leaf falling from its bough. Concentrate on only one sound at a time for now, listen to it, how far away do you think it is? What is it? Then go on to another sound. You will find as time goes on and you keep up the practice you will begin to hear more and more. Some things you never knew were there.
Gradually you will be able to do this exercise in a more populated area until you are able to hear all in a busy town. This of course does take time but if you can spare 15 minutes every other day or so for this exercise your auditory perception will become very sharply honed.
DID YOU SEE THAT?
The answer to the above, for most of us anyway, is probably NO! As with our hearing we tend to ignore a lot that goes on around us. We really do miss a lot. Again start in a place away from the rat race. Perhaps in our now familiar country park or anywhere you can concentrate on the next step.
Have a quick look around as you would normally. What do you see? Grass? Trees? Hedges? Sky? Perhaps make a list. Now take another look but this time "Zoom in", concentrate, there is more than you first thought . Movement, infinite detail in everything you see, texture, colour, shape. There is Shadow and light. Height and different angles.
Look around yourself perhaps 90 degrees at a time. Now what are you seeing, push your sight to the distance. What do you see? Bring your sight gradually closer, notice all the things you see. Notice all the movement, however subtle. See objects you never noticed before.
Go back to your list, if you made one. Write a new one of the things you saw whilst doing the exercise. I bet its an awful lot longer. Gradually bring this exercise into busier situations. If you keep at it you will be surprised at what you have been missing.
THAT MAGIC TOUCH
When we pick something up, as indeed we do many times a day, we usually use that item for what we need and then put it back down. But have you ever taken the time to actually use your sense of touch? Probably not. Unless we are holding a very soft, plush teddy bear or perhaps stroking the cat, we generally ignore any other information being gathered at the time.
This time pick up any object you come to, perhaps that pen on your desk or that TV control over there
. Really concentrate on the object in your hands. How does it feel? Smooth, rough, round, sharp, angled, soft, hard, light, heavy, cold, hot…..The list is endless. All things have many aspects to them. Really examine your chosen object thoroughly. Again make a list of words that describe how it feels. You will find that there is much more to what you are holding than you first thought. As time progresses you will find more and more detailed information coming to you through touch.
Perhaps you could do this exercise when you have a quiet moment to yourself. I do hope you are beginning to realize that there is much more to this world of ours than we first think. Do persevere with these exercises it is all part of giving your sixth sense a kick start. Try not to loose sight of that goal. TO REALISE YOUR PSYCHIC ABILITIES.
A TASTE OF THE FUTURE
Again taste is a sense that we use every day even without thinking. We all have to eat to survive, but do you really taste the food? Well, yes you probably do but can you describe all the different flavours you experience?
Perhaps you are sitting down to a sumptuous Sunday lunch. Roast beef and all the trimmings followed by treacle pud and custard. Mmmmmm! Sounds tasty does it not? But what does it taste like? I expect a lot of us can imagine right now. (I appologise to any vegetarians reading this just replace the above with your favorite meal…)
A lot of us do not take the time to savour the different tastes we experience 9 times out of 10 the things we eat we have eaten before so we have a preconceived idea of what it is like to eat it. We may also smell it before it is served. Again this conjures up ideas of what this food will taste like. So that is what is expected and that is what you get.
In reality no two joints of beef or whatever the fayre may be, will taste exactly the same. No matter how subtle there will be a difference.
For this exercise try the next time you have something to eat. Whatever that may be. Put aside any preconceived ideas of flavour and any taste memories brought to you by smell. How does that taste? What about flavour? Texture? Take time, try to sort out all the different taste sensations. It may not be that easy to start with but keep going you`ll get there. You will get a very distinguished palate. You could have a great future as a wine taster if nothing else.
SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
Smell is the last of the 5 physical senses but by no means least important. Smell can bring back memories that may have been locked away for years. Just a "simple" familiar smell can bring visions of the past flooding back. So is it right to label smell of this nature as "simple"? Of course not. Smell is one of the more powerful senses if not the most.
We pick up smells, scents and so on all day and night. But sadly we tend to let most of them pass us by without another thought. What are you smelling right now? You probably hadn`t even thought about it. Lets take a few secon ds right now and try to recognize what you can smell. Is it sweet? Sour? Perfumed? If so what is that like? I expect you tried that smell test just now and didn`t really pick up a lot. Probably quite neutral in fact.
This is where you need to start training your nose to be more sensitive to everything around you. Try smelling something with a really positive scent, such as essential oils. Try as hard as you can to explain the sensation coming through your nose. Perhaps its very strong, heavy, light, fruity, musky or tingles your nose. Now dissect that smell find different smells within that scent.
This is a very hard task I know but don`t give up it gets easier and soon you will begin to notice a lot of scents not experienced before.
OK! SO WHERE DOES THIS GET ME?
Good question. If you have been following these exercises diligently, be as it may each day or three times a week you should have noticed something startling. By sharpening your everyday physical senses, you should have wakened that dormant sixth sense. This is because it goes hand in hand with the other 5 senses and by sharpening those you sharpen your intuitive sense.
The sixth sense uses all the other "physical" senses to some degree to pass on information be it in an auditory manor, visual via the sight process or any of the other three.
Now the BIG test. Remember that first question right at the beginning? In case you don`t it was "AM I PSYCHIC"? Try it out when you can perhaps talk with friends and see what you can pick up. But please be gentle and consider other peoples feelings. Don`t ever give anyone totally negative readings as you may cause great upset. Try to be diplomatic. Go ahead try it but take it easy gain experience. You must now keep using this new found ability or it will go to sleep again.
Oh! The answer to that question??? ……YES YOU ARE….
